Activity Structure

Round 1: Single-Turn Prompt (10 minutes)

Instructions:

  1. Open ChatGPT or Claude (your choice)
  2. Write ONE prompt asking AI to complete your task (based on your scenario above)
  3. Submit and receive ONE response
  4. Review the quality of the output
  5. Do NOT refine or ask follow-up questions yet

✏️ Personal Notes (No submission required - optional reference for yourself)

Your Single-Turn Prompt:

[Optional: Save your prompt for comparison]

AI’s Single-Turn Output:

[Optional: Save AI's response for comparison]

Rate the quality (1-5): ☐ 1 ☐ 2 ☐ 3 ☐ 4 ☐ 5

Guiding Question: What quality issues did you notice in this output? Consider:

  • Does it match Mr. DIY’s brand voice?
  • Is the Thai language natural and appropriate?
  • Are specific product examples included?
  • Does it emphasize “Always Low Prices”?

🔄 Round 2: Conversational Approach (10 minutes)

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Start a NEW conversation for this round

Open a completely fresh chat window in ChatGPT or Claude. Do NOT continue from Round 1.

Instructions:

  1. Start a FRESH conversation with AI (new chat)
  2. Have a 3-4 turn conversation to complete your task
  3. Refine tone, add details, adjust for your specific needs
  4. Notice how the quality improves with each refinement
  5. Save the final output for your own use (no hand-in required)

✏️ Personal Notes (No submission required - optional reference for yourself)

Conversation Turn 1 (Your Prompt):

[Optional: Save your conversation for future reference]

AI Response 1:

[Optional: Track how outputs improve with iteration]

Conversation Turn 2 (Your Refinement):

[What did you ask AI to change/improve?]

AI Response 2:

[AI's second response]

Conversation Turn 3 (Further Refinement):

[What else did you refine?]

AI Response 3:

[AI's third response]

Conversation Turn 4 (Optional - Final Polish):

[Any final adjustments?]

AI Response 4 (Final Output):

[Final polished response - keep for your own use]

Rate the quality (1-5): ☐ 1 ☐ 2 ☐ 3 ☐ 4 ☐ 5

Reflection Questions

✏️ Personal Reflection (Think about these - no written submission required)

1. Quality Comparison

Guiding Question: How did Round 2 output compare to Round 1?

☐ Much better
☐ Somewhat better
☐ About the same
☐ Worse

What specific improvements did you see in Round 2? Think about changes in:

  • Brand voice alignment
  • Specific product details
  • Cultural appropriateness
  • Call-to-action strength
  • Overall persuasiveness

(You can capture these insights mentally or jot notes for yourself)

2. Conversation Strategy

Guiding Question: What refinements helped most?

Refinement strategies you might have used:

  • Adjusting tone (more casual/formal/friendly/professional)
  • Adding specific details (dates, numbers, examples)
  • Cultural adaptation (Thai context, local references)
  • Format changes (structure, emoji, code examples)
  • Technical accuracy (specifications, error handling)

Reflection: Which refinement strategy had the biggest impact on improving your output quality?

(No need to write this down - just be ready to share in the group discussion)

3. The Insight

Guiding Question: Why did conversation work better than a single perfect prompt?

Consider:

  • Could you have written the perfect prompt in one try?
  • What did you learn about what AI needed as you conversed?
  • How did your understanding of the task evolve?

Key Reflection: What does this tell you about how to work with AI effectively?

(Think this through - you’ll share insights during the debrief)

Key Takeaways

🎯 PRINCIPLE LEARNED:

AI is a conversation partner, not a magic button.

Iteration unlocks quality

  • First response is rarely the best response
  • Follow-up questions refine and improve outputs
  • Conversation allows you to steer toward what you need
  • You don’t need the “perfect prompt” - you need dialogue

Reusable Prompts

Round 1 Template:

[Your simple, direct request]

Round 2 Refinement Templates:

"Make this more [quality dimension: formal/casual/technical/friendly]"

"Add [specific elements: dates/data/examples/code]"

"Adjust the tone to be more [professional/empathetic/technical]"

"Include [specific requirements: brand voice/error handling/call-to-action]"

"Make this sound more natural for [Thai Facebook users/business communication/developers]"

Learning Checklist

✏️ Self-Check (Personal verification - not graded)

Before moving to the group debrief, verify you:

  • ☐ Completed Round 1 (single-turn prompt)
  • ☐ Completed Round 2 (3-4 turn conversation)
  • ☐ Noticed quality improvement between rounds
  • ☐ Can explain why conversation worked better

(These are for your own learning - nothing to hand in)

Group Debrief (5 minutes)

The facilitator will lead a brief discussion. Be ready to share:

  • Did Round 2 produce noticeably better results than Round 1?
  • What refinement strategies worked best for you?
  • Can you explain WHY conversation worked better than a single prompt?

2-3 participants will be invited to share their examples with the group.
